The start of the race will take place on top of the levee in Downtown Baton Rouge. From there the runners will stay on levee as it follows the river all the way down to Audubon Park in New Orleans. The only time runners will have to cross a road will be at the finish when they shoot down the levee, cross River Road and enter the park. There are a few instances during the race in which runners will have to run on river road, but these are short sections. Most of the the run will be on the levee. This means that there will be NO traffic on the course. It also means that the terrain is mostly dirt and gravel although the last few miles are paved. We have been working closely with the Ponchartrain and Jefferson Levee Districts, local law enforcement, Parish Governments and local officials to ensure the safety and success of the event.
As the race approaches we will provide teams with detailed maps of each runner’s legs with the distance and the course as a whole. The maps will also include detailed directions for each team van to ensure they can get to each check point safely and on time. You will also receive a packet and map that gives the history of the Mississippi River and it’s surroundings.
The 7 Mile Stretch
From miles markers 35-42 runners will be treated to some history, and maybe even a ghost or two. Watch the video below to get the full story on the Carville Leper Colony.
